AUSTIN and SAN MARCOS, Texas — The University of Notre Dame track & field program qualified a pair of relay teams for Saturday’s finals in Friday’s preliminaries at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas, while several student-athletes completed the second day of competition at the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State.
At the Texas Relays, the women’s 4×100-meter relay group of Kaila Barber, Jade Barber, Parker English and Margaret Bamgbose placed seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 45.70 to advance to Saturday’s finals. On the men’s side 4×400-meter relay also qualified with a seventh-place showing, finishing in 3:09.32.
Individually, Jade Barber also qualified for the finals with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.35. In the Section B finals of the women’s triple jump, Mary Esther Gourdin finished 11th with a jump of 11.65 meters.
In the finals of the men’s sprint medley relay, Harvey Smith, Alex Groesch, Chris Giesting and Patrick O’Connell finished 14th in 3:24.88.
At the Bobcat Invitational, Samantha Murray finished 11th in the 400 meters (56.48); Rachel Rhodes tied for sixth in the high jump (1.80 meters); and Lena Madison was 13th in the hammer throw (51.18). On the men’s side, Hunter Holton tied for second in the high jump (2.00 meters), while Nathan Richartz notched a personal best in the pole vault with a jump of 5.10 meters to finish in third place. Anthony Shivers also had a personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.11 meters.
