May 9, 2013

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A pair of University of Notre Dame men’s golfers received all-BIG EAST recognition for their performance during the 2013 season, the conference office announced Thursday. Junior Niall Platt and freshman Cory Sciupider were among 15 BIG EAST players to earn all-conference honors.

Platt, a three-time all-BIG EAST selection, led all Notre Dame players with a 73.41 scoring average, two top-five finishes, two top-10 results and five tournaments in the top 25. Platt claimed medalist honors for the first time in his career during the fall slate at the Macdonald Cup on the historic Course at Yale, firing a two-round total of 138 (70-68) to win by one stroke. Platt added a fifth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship last month in Orlando, Fla., closing with a three-under par 69 to post a final score of 214 (-2).

Sciupider capped a successful inaugural season with the Irish by finishing in third place at the BIG EAST Championship, carding the lowest round of his Notre Dame career with a final round five-under 67 (72-72-67-211). Sciupider added two other top 25’s during 2013, sharing co-medalist honors at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate March 24. His first round at the River Course at Kingsmill Resort was a bogey-free three-under par, 67 in treacherous weather conditions. The tournament was ultimately shortened to 18 holes due to inclement weather. Sciupider’s scoring average of 74.00 ranked fourth on the Notre Dame squad.
