PDFNOTRE DAME, Ind. – Competition concluded Saturday at the Indiana University Relays, as Notre Dame’s Kaila Barber headlined the meet for the Irish with a first-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles event. Overall, Notre Dame garnered 19 top-10 finishes on day two to complement seven earned during the opening session at Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Indiana.

Barber, a graduate student from Middleburg Heights, Ohio, secured her win with a time of 8.32. On Friday, Barber was the front-runner in prelims of the 60-meter hurdles (8.31). She also placed fifth in the 60-meter dash, leading teammate Kyla Lewis, who finished seventh (7.73), across the line.

The Notre Dame men added a pair of top-three showings in the high jump and weight throw events. Freshman Matthew Birzer posted mark of 2.04 meters in the high jump for third; while junior Anthony Shivers also claimed third with a long of 19.56 meters in the weight throw.

On the women’s side, junior Taylor Craft registered 11.51 meters in the triple jump for third. Senior Lena Madison rounded out field events for the Irish, placing 15th in the weight throw (16.52 meters).

In distance events, Annie Heffernan, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, earned fifth in the 1-mile event (4:52.41). Her classmate Rachel DaDamio, who placed ninth in a time of 4:57.83, followed Heffernan. The top Irish finisher in the women’s 800-meter run was sophomore Samantha Murray (2:16.40).

Junior Andrew Stone crossed the line in a time of 1:54.08 in the men’s 800-meter run, while fellow junior Grant Koch claimed 10th in the event in 1:54.70.

Both the Notre Dame men’s and women’s contingents came away with top-10 finishes in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Jordan Shead represented the Irish women with a sixth-place showing (56.24), as junior Alex Groesch placed eighth in the men’s race (48.76).

The meet concluded with a consistent strong point for the Irish, the 4×400-meter relays. The Irish women’s quartet – Parker English, Payton Miller, Shead and Margaret Bamgbose – finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 3:42.49. The men’s grouping of Drake Stimson, Harvey Smith, Connor Stapleton and Groesch posted a time of 3:16.09 for fourth.

Notre Dame will return home for the prestigious Meyo Invitational, scheduled for Feb. 5-6 at Loftus Sports Center.
