Irish Travel To Georgia Tech For Last Meet Of The Regular Season

May 14, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame track and field teams may have competed in the Grand Valley State Last Chance Meet last weekend, but this weekend marks the real last chance for the Irish. The squads will be heading down to Atlanta, Ga., for the Georgia Tech Invitational, their last meet of the regular season before NCAA Preliminaries.

Seventeen athletes will make the trip to the George C. Griffin Track and Georgia Tech University, with the competition beginning Friday, May 16 at noon and going through the day on Saturday. One glaring difference in the travel roster this week–no seniors will be making the trip, as they will be walking across the graduation stage this Sunday.

“None of the seniors are going. It does change the dynamic in some ways,” explains head coach Joe Piane. “It will change it for things like the men’s mile relay, which won’t happen, because two of our quarter-mile runners won’t be there.”

The Irish will not compete next weekend, giving them some downtime before the NCAA Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla., beginning May 29.
