NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame fencing team recently completed competition at the 39th annual Garret Open from University Park, Pa. Reggie Bentley was the lone medalist for the Irish, earning the bronze in the men’s foil, while Lian Osier (women’s sabre) and Greg Schoolcraft (men’s epee) finished fourth in their respective weapons.
Other top finishers on the men’s side included Ariel DeSmet (sixth-men’s foil), Zach Schirtz (12th-men’s foil), Enzo Castellani (14th-men’s foil), Kevin Hassett (seventh-men’s sabre), Alex Coccia (12th-men’s sabre) and James Kaull (11th-men’s epee) as each earned top-15 results in their respective weapons.
On the women’s side Sarah Borrman (sixth-women’s sabre), Abigail Nichols (ninth-women’s sabre), Eileen Hassett (11th-women’s sabre), Darsie Malynn (seventh-women’s foil), Adriana Camacho (eighth-women’s foil), Grace Hartman (ninth-women’s foil), Radmila Sarkisova (12th-women’s foil) and Hayley Reese (16th-women’s foil) all placed within the top 20 of their weapon.
The Irish will not return to team competition until taking to the strip at the NYU Duals on January 22, but individual members of the team will be competing at the Junior North American Cup in Milwaukee, Wis., Nov. 19-22 and in Dallas, Texas, Jan. 14-17.
