NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the third time this season, Troy Murphy earned Big East Player of the Week honors.

It is the ninth time Murphy won the award. He shares this week’s honor with Boston College’s Troy Bell.

Murphy aided his team in scoring two major upsets. The Irish defeated Georgetown on Sunday, 78-71. In the upset, he scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Earlier that same week, Murphy and his teammates upset Syracuse, 74-60. In the win, he registered the 40th double double of his career. He hauled in 16 rebounds and scored 34 points.

In the same contest, Murphy posted two career-highs. He shot nine-for-17 from the field and sank 16 of his 19 free-throw attempts.

POLL POSITION

After a two-week vacation from the polls, the Irish find themselves back in them.

Notre Dame is ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press Poll. The Irish are sandwiched between the likes of Seton Hall and Oklahoma. Brey’s squad finished just 18 votes shy of 22nd place.

However, the Irish still remain unranked in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Notre Dame received 37 votes, which places the team in the No. 27 spot.

WHERE THEY STAND

Two Irish players are amongst the best in the nation in various statistical categories.

Senior point guard Martin Ingelsby is one of top ball distributors in the country. He dishes out seven assists per game, which currently ranks him 10th in the nation.

Murphy is third in the country in scoring. He averages around 23.1 points per game.
