THE CHALLENGE:

Notre Dame head coach Martin Stone on his expectations for the regatta:

“I think we are going to race very well. We faced a very difficult race schedule this season, it might be one of the most difficult in the country. We traveled a lot. We are gaining speed and we are racing better. I think we learned an awful lot. We got thumped pretty badly early and we have learned a lot and made some adjustments.”

Notre Dame faced four of the nation’s top five teams this season and nine ranked teams overall. The Irish went up against No. 2 California, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Ohio State, No. 8 Stanford, No. 11 Virginia, No. 16 Indiana, No. 17 Duke, No. 19 Michigan State during the 2016-17 schedule and also faced UCF, Louisville and Oklahoma – all who are receiving votes in the latest US Rowing/CRCA Top 20.

THE FIELD:

Coach Stone on the 2017 ACC Championship field:

“The field is very good this year. Syracuse is the top seed in the varsity eight. It is deserved, they have raced well and shown great speed throughout the year. Virginia has shown some solid speed and they are seeded first in the second varsity eight and first varsity four. Duke, who we have seen several times this year, is coming along and has good speed. Louisville and Virginia both beat us very badly early in the year. It is a pretty loaded field. The Syracuse varsity eight will be a very interesting boat to watch. We have great respect for them and they are loaded with talent.”
