April 24, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior pole vaulter Kevin Schipper has earned his second consecutive BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award after winning his fourth title of the spring season this past weekend, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Schipper finished first in the pole vault at the Polytan Invitational with a vault of 5.40m (17-08.50 ft). The mark was .50m (1-07.75 ft) better than the second-place performer and puts him into a tie for 10th nationally and third in the EAST.

Notre Dame has had a student-athlete get honored by the BIG EAST for three consecutive weeks as Schipper followed in the footsteps of Jeremy Rae on April 10.

The Leo, Ind., native and his Irish teammates head back into action this weekend as half the team heads to the famous Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, while the others travel to Hillsdale, Mich., for the Hillsdale Gina Relays.
