NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior Mary Saxer has been named the BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Thursday.
Saxer had an outstanding performance at the Mike Poehlein Invitational last weekend.
The Lancaster, N.Y. native won the women’s pole vault event with a 4.30m (14-1 1/4) mark at the Purdue meet. She crusher her own school record of 4.06m (13-3 3/4), while breaking the Mike Poehlein Invitational and Dave Rankin Track records.
Saxer earned her first All-America honor in March with a ninth-place women’s pole vault finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She also successfully defended her BIG EAST crown, winning her second league title in February.
The Irish track and field teams will compete at the Ole Miss Invitational Saturday in Oxford, Miss.
