NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Two standout University of Notre Dame women’s soccer student-athletes continue to accrue preseason recognition as TopDrawerSoccer.com has released its preseason Best XI squads.
Senior captains Cari Roccaro and Katie Naughton were named to the preseason TDS Best XI first and third teams, respectively. Roccaro, a midfielder/defender, was named to the second team following her sophomore season.
Roccaro, a native of East Islip, New York, was picked as a defender for the Best XI squad. She played and started in 18 games for an Irish defense that allowed just 0.82 goals per contest last season. She netted two goals on the year, including a game-winner against Syracuse (Oct. 18, 2014), while also notching an assist. Roccaro was an All-ACC First Team selection and an NSCAA All-Southeast Region Second Team pick in 2014, as well as a third team NSCAA Scholar All-American. She will look to anchor a backfield that will once again be a strength for the Irish.
Naughton, a defender from Elk Grove Village, Illinois, was an All-ACC Second Team pick last season while picking up four weekly awards from Top Drawer Soccer, CollegeSoccer360 and ESPNW. She led the Irish in field time last season, playing all but two minutes on the year. She was a First Team NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region and a Third Team NSCAA Scholar All-American. At Notre Dame’s end-of-year O.S.C.A.R.S. ceremony, she received the Francis Patrick O’Conner Award.
