Red-Hot Irish Head to ACC Championships

Take place April 23-26 at Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course

MILTON, Ga. – It is postseason time for the Notre Dame men’s golf team, who are hitting their stride at precisely the right time. The Fighting Irish will compete in the ACC Championships, April 23-26, at the Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The tournament will feature a new format this year, which includes 54 holes of stroke play on Friday (36 holes) and Saturday (18 holes) before match play begins on Sunday. The top four teams following stroke play will advance to match play semifinals on Sunday, with the finals contested on Monday.

The first round Friday begins at 7:30 a.m. EST with continuous play throughout the day for the second round. The third round on Saturday begins at 9 a.m. Match play semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday begin at 9 a.m. 

Spectators are allowed at the 2021 ACC Men’s Golf Championship and it is not a ticketed event. Spectators will be required to mask.

Match play finals on Monday will be carried live on ACCNX beginning at 9 a.m. In addition, a one-hour recap show of the best of the ACC Men’s Golf Championship will air on ACC Network Monday, May 3 at 7 p.m.

THE FIELD

The ACC continues to be one of the toughest leagues in the NCAA, leading all conferences with four teams in the top 10. Meanwhile, its six teams in the top 25 rank second.

The field consists of No. 25 Notre Dame, Boston College, No. 4 Clemson, Duke, No. 2 Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, No. 16 North Carolina, No. 8 NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and No. 6 Wake Forest. 

IRISH CLUBHOUSE

The Irish have played in five tournaments this spring and with each event they’ve improved their team score. Not to mention, Notre Dame has secured three consecutive top-three finishes. 

Looking at the last three tournaments in particular – the Irish went 12-under at Spartan Collegiate, where they were led by a fourth-place finish by Andrew O’Leary. Then the Irish went 19-under at Augusta Haskins, where they were led by fifth-place showing by Palmer Jackson. 

Next, the Irish scored the second-lowest team score in program history with a 39-under at Stitch Intercollegiate. There they were led by a seventh-place finish from Tucker Clark. 

Lastly, Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan will stick with his regular starting five in Clark (71.13), Jackson (71.20), Davis Chatfield (71.47), O’Leary (72.00) and Taichi Kho (72.13).
