NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s soccer team’s NCAA first-round game with Oakland was halted Friday-night due to lightning with 55 seconds left in the first half and the Irish leading 2-0. The game was halted shortly before 9:00 p.m. EST, with a 30-minute clock set (and re-set) on each lightning strike. As of 9:45, there was 27 minutes left on the latest clock reset.

Sophomore forward Kerri Hanks assisted on the first goal after delivering a corner- kick service from the left flag, with Amanda Cinalli converting on a far-post volley for her 10th goal of the season. Hanks later scored on a 22-yard free kick from the center of the field, sending a shot into the lower right corner for her 19th goal of the season to go along with 15 assists.

If the game resumes tonight, the teams will play the final 55 second of the first half and then immediately change ends and play the second half. A full 90 minutes are required for any NCAA postseason game to be considered an official result.

If the game is unable to be played tonight, there will be a complete restart on Saturday (starting at 0-0, with a full first and second half).

Additional updates will be posted on the ND Sports Hotline every half-hour, starting at 10:30 p.m. (call 574-631-3000, option 4 and option 2).

The winner of the ND-Oakland game will face Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the NCAA second round, on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 1:00 p.m. UWM advanced past Michigan earlier Friday night, by virtue of a 5-3 margin in corner kicks (after a scoreless 110 minutes of play).
