Notre Dame 14th After Day One At Aggie Invitational

BRYAN, Texas – The Notre Dame men’s golf team fired a 622 (318-304) over the opening two rounds of the Aggie Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the par 72 7,235-yard Traditions Golf Club. Despite slicing 14 shots off of their first round total, the Fighting Irish are currently in 14th-place out of the 14-team field heading into the final 18 holes of play on Sunday. New Mexico and Oklahoma State reside a top the team leader board with 36-hole totals of 580, while the Lobos’ Spencer Levin leads the individual standings after posting an eight-under par 136. Junior Cole Isban (South Bend, Ind./Marian) led the Irish on day one with a five-over par 149 (77-72).

Ten of the 14 teams in the field are either ranked in the top-25 of the latest GCAA Coaches’ Poll or are receiving votes including the Irish, who garnered three votes. Oklahoma State is No. 1, while New Mexico joins the Cowboys in the top-five at No. 5.

Fighting Irish junior Mark Baldwin (Laconia, N.H./New Hampton Prep) is in a tie for 48th as he fired a nine-over par 153 (78-75) on the day, while classmate Scott Gustafson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) carded a 158 (82-76) and is in 66th. Fellow junior Eric Deutsch (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) registered a 19-over par 163 (81-82) to reside in 72nd-place.

Notre Dame sophomore Shane Sigsbee (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) struggled in Saturday’s first round as he carded a 91, yet responded in the afternoon with a 77 and currently resides in 74th-place. Rounding out the field for the Irish was freshman Greg Rodgers (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul’s School), who tallied a 170 (89-81) to place 75th heading into day two. The tournament format has each team counting the low four scores out of the six golfers who played for each round.
