Modleski Finishes Third In The Invitational At The Ford

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish took home a third place finish in the Invitational at the Ford hosted at the Ford Field and River Club Feb. 26-27. The Irish shot a collective score of 846 (-18), finishing behind the host team of Georgia Southern and the invitational champion, the Badgers of Wisconsin.

The Irish were led by freshman Jacob Modleski, who finished with a 209 (-7) and placed T3rd, his best finish so far in his Irish career. Modleski shot a team best 67 (-5) in round three on Tuesday, with an even par of 72 in round two and a 70 (-2) in round one.

Palmer Jackson finished T12th with three straight rounds under par. The graduate student shot a 70 (-2), 71 (-1), 71 (-1), finishing with a 212 (-4) on the tournament. Jackson finished with 17 birdies, which was the third most in the entire field.

Angelo Marcon and Nate Stevens each finished T17th, shooting 215 (-1). Marcon closed out the invitational with a strong round three score of 68 (-4). Stevens’ best performance came in round two, shooting a 69 (-3).

Freshman Chris Bagnall competed as an individual and finished 16th, shooting two under with a score of 214 (71, 72, 71).

“The flight home was a little smoother after a solid final round,” said Head Coach and Director of Golf John Handrigan, “but our performance this week does not meet the Notre Dame Golf standard. The positive is that we have a very strong team with players who are determined to perform at a high level and not afraid of hard work. We have a high bar, but the exciting part is, this team is capable of raising that bar.”

The Irish will hit the road again March 11-12 as they travel to compete in the Johnnie-O at Sea Island hosted by Rutgers.

“Good teams always respond well to challenges and I can’t wait to see how this team responds,” said Handrigan. “Our daily process will be better and I expect you will see a well prepared and highly motivated team in Sea Island.”
