TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The University of Notre Dame women’s track & field program added two All-ACC honorees to its ranks and advanced three athletes to final events, while a Fighting Irish men’s senior also moved past the preliminary round Friday at the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships at the Mike Long Track at Florida State University.

Through seven scored events, the 23rd-ranked Irish women occupy sixth place (17 points), while the men’s team is tied with Clemson for 10th (10 points).

Senior Carly Loeffel earned her first All-ACC nod, making the first team by finishing third in the heptathlon (5,501 points) after an impressive day in which she placed second in the long jump (5.66m) and fourth in the javelin (38.41), as well as ninth in the 800 meters (2:24.48). Freshman Rachel Rhodes finished ninth in the event.

Senior Emily Morris earned second-team honors in the shot put, finishing sixth with a toss of 15.39 meters. The London, Ohio, native added the honor to the first-team recognition she earned in the event at the indoor championships in March.

The Irish advanced two to the finals in the 400 meters, as junior Margaret Bamgbose (fourth, 52.71) and senior Amber Lalla (seventh, 53.43) made it past the preliminary heat. Bamgbose — who will also race in the 200 meters finals and both relays — won the event during the indoor season, while Lalla will compete in her first career individual conference final.

Also advancing to Saturday was Jade Barber in the 100-meter hurdles. The senior took first in the preliminary to easily move on with a time of 13.14. Her personal best of 12.81, set this season at the Texas Relays, leads the conference.

Notre Dame did fail to qualify an athlete for the finals in the 100 meters and 800 meters. Barber finished 10th in the 100 meters prelims, while Samantha Murray was the highest Irish finisher in the 800 in 14th place. Danielle Aragon, who entered the race with a seed time of 2:07.34, did not finish.

For the Irish men, Chris Giesting placed third (46.06) in the 400 meters prelims to make the finals. Like Bamgbose, he will also compete in the 200 meters, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay on Saturday.

Junior Brent Swanberg finished seventh in the decathlon (6,864 points), just 20 points off the pace for All-ACC recognition. He put up a pair of third-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (15.38) and 1,500 meters (4:37.97), as well as a fourth-place performance in the pole vault (4.37m).

Hunter Holton also placed seventh for the Irish in the high jump.

The Championships conclude Saturday with a full slate of final events taking place beginning with the men’s javelin and women’s pole vault at 11 a.m. EDT. Final track events will begin at 5 p.m. EDT with women’s 4×100-meter relay.

ESPN3 will stream live coverage at the links provided at the top of the page, while live results will be available throughout the event on the championship website.
