Irish Women Enter USTFCCCA National Rankings

Oct. 4, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s cross country team entered the USTFCCCA national rankings at No. 25 on Tuesday after placing fifth at the elite Notre Dame Invitational last Friday. The national ranking is the first for the Irish women this season.

The squad, headed up by veteran head coach Tim Connelly, also jumped up to third in the Great Lakes Region, moving up two spots from fifth. They trail only Michigan State and Michigan of the BIG TEN in the Great Lakes Region poll.

On the men’s side, the Irish dropped from the national rankings following a disappointing 11th-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. Notre Dame does however hold onto its No. 4 Great Lakes Regional ranking. The Irish trail only the BIG TEN’s Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan in this poll.

Notre Dame will have a chance to help it’s cause next weekend, as the Irish battle top teams at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. The meet begins at 2 p.m. ET on Oct. 14.
