NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s rowing second varsity eight boat earned the inaugural BIG EAST Boat Of The Week honors for the 2012 season, it was announced by the conference Thursday. The boat earned the recognition after their performances this past weekend against Ohio State, Purdue, Indiana and Louisville.

Coxed by Christina Dines (Buffalo, N.Y.) and crewed by Ingrid Woelfel (Eugene, Ore.), Lauren Tharp (Dayton, Ohio), Rose Doerfler (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Anna Kottkamp (Wenatchee, Wash.), Paige Aiello (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Kelsey Haddad (Berwyn, Pa.), Teresa Blumenstein (Westmont, N.J.) and Teresa Rubinger (Arlington, Va.), the second varsity eight finished the weekend 1-1 including a win over BIG EAST rival Louisville.

They began last weekend’s competition Saturday against Ohio State at Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio. In the race, the second varsity eight crew stopped the clock at 6:44.25, just seconds behind the winning Ohio State boat.

On the second day of racing, the Irish second varsity eight boat raced the likes of Indiana, Purdue and Louisville on Eagle Creek in Indianapolis, Ind. In the morning race, the Irish set the pace early and led all boats across the finish line with a time of 6:34.66, besting the second-place boat by over seven seconds. The finish also improved on their previous day’s time by nearly 10 seconds. The second varsity eight and the remainder of the Notre Dame boats return to the water April 14-15 when they head to Charlottesville, Va., to take part in the Virginia Invite.
