Irish Rowing Set For Regatta Against Indiana, Purdue And Eastern Michigan

March 26, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame rowing team is set to take part in a four-team regatta Sunday at the Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis, Ind. The Irish will face off against Indiana, Purdue and Eastern Michigan in the day’s races.

The Irish enter competition receiving 11 votes in the first USRowing/CRCA Division I team rankings. Indiana also earned four votes in the season’s first ballot, while Eastern Michigan and Purdue are not ranked.

This will mark the first competition for the Irish since enjoying a successful spring break trip that saw the crew win four of five races against Buffalo (Mar. 19) after winning eight pieces in a scrimmage format against Alabama and Minnesota the weekend prior (Mar. 12).

Tomorrow’s races will see the teams compete in varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four and second varsity four races. Notre Dame will race an “A” and “B” boat in each the varsity four, second varsity four and second varsity eight heats.

Last season, the Irish and Hoosiers squared off at the same venue with Notre Dame winning six of the seven races. The varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, novice eight, second novice eight and novice four boats all claimed victories, while the second varsity four boat was the lone second place finisher.
