Irish Near Top of Multi-Event Leaderboard After First Day of BIG EAST Championships

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Four Irish student-athletes opened competition Friday as the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon kicked off events at the BIG EAST Championships, held at Gettler Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.

In the men’s decathlon, Justin Schneider sits in third place with 3,645 points after one day of competition. Ted Glasnow is fourth with 3,583 points, and Dean Odegard is 12th with 3,213. Connecticut’s Sean Smith is first with 3,900 total points, while Husky teammate Jacob Waruch is second with 3,669.

Maddie Buttinger is second in the women’s heptathlon with 3,263 points. Syracuse’s Uhonoma Osazuwa leads the event with 3,497 points, and St. John’s Priscilla Frederick is third with 3,259.

Competition continues tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. with more decathlon and heptathlon events.
