Irish Move Up In USTFCCCA Regional And National Polls

Oct. 18, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame cross country teams moved up in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional and national polls released this week.

The women, who defeated seven ranked foes at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, moved up to second in the Great Lakes Region. They trail only Michigan State in the poll. Nationally, the Irish are now 23rd, up from 25th a week ago. Looking at the BIG EAST, Notre Dame currently sits behind five teams in the national polls, as the league has five teams ranked in the top 20, including four in the top 10.

On the men’s side, the Irish fell to fifth in the Great Lakes Region, but re-entered the national rankings at 29 after dropping five ranked opponents last week in Wisconsin.

The Irish are preparing for the BIG EAST Championships that will be held in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 29.
