Irish Finish Tied For 13th At All-American Intercollegiate

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team used a final round 296 (+8) Tuesday to finish tied for 13th at the All-American Intercollegiate at The Woodlands Country Club. The Irish concluded the 54-hole tournament with a score of 887 (+23).

Arkansas held on for a one-shot win at the tournament, finishing with an 841 (-23) with North Texas finishing just behind at 22 under (842). Texas A&M rounded out the top three, finishing third at 845 (-19). Geoff Shaw of Texas A&M held on to win individual medalist honors, finishing the two-day event 11 under par (205).

Max Scodro (Chicago, Ill.) moved from third to first among the Irish rotation after carding a final round 69 (-3). On the day, the Irish senior posted six birdies to go along with nine pars and only three bogeys. It is the seventh team-leading effort for Scodro and the final-round 69 represents the sixth time on the year that he has posted a sub-70 round. Overall, Scodro tied for 29th place with a score of 218 (+2).

Chris Walker (The Woodlands, Texas) used a final round 76 (+4) to finish second in the Irish rotation and tied for 37th overall. The senior finished with 11 pars on the day along with two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey. Overall, Walker concluded the tournament at 219 (+3).

Paul McNamara III (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) concluded his tournament with a final round 75 (+3) to finish third in the Irish rotation. The junior continued to post birdies, carding five more in his final round, but was hampered by four bogeys and two double bogeys as well. Overall, McNamara shared 42nd place with a score of 220 (+4). The result marked McNamara’s best result to-par on the year and was his highest finish on the spring season.

Niall Platt (Santa Barbara, Calif.) rounded out the Irish scoring on the final round, posting a four over, 76. The Irish sophomore finished the day with 10 pars as well as two birdies and six bogeys. Overall, Platt wrapped up his tournament in a tie for 73rd with a 230 (+14).

Tom Usher (Baildon, England) struggled on his final round of play, posting an 81 (+9) while not counting toward the team total. On the day, Usher registered 10 pars, two birdies, three bogeys, two double bogeys and one quadruple bogey. The senior finished 81st with a score of 241 (+25).

Notre Dame now wraps up its spring regular season as it plays host to the third annual Battle at the Warren. The one-day event takes place April 22 at the Warren Golf Course.
