INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame baseball team fell to No. 8 Indiana, 3-0, on Tuesday night in a neutral-site matchup at Victory Field.

Notre Dame (15-22, 6-13) and Indiana (27-6, 7-2) engaged in a pitchers’ duel for much of the game as both pitching staffs worked to maintain a scoreless tie through the first five innings. A two-run homer was too much for the Irish to overcome as they moved to 5-8 against top-10 teams this season.

How It Happened

Notre Dame starter Zack Martin worked 4.0 innings of one-hit baseball, striking out three and holding Indiana scoreless.

Anthony Holubecki led off the bottom of the sixth issuing a walk to Logan Kaletha, who advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs in the inning, Ryan Fineman drilled a two-run homer to left to put the Hoosiers on the board.

Tommy Vail entered in the seventh and allowed a single up the middle to Scotty Bradley. Bradley advanced to third on a groundout and a wild pitch and eventually came around to score on a groundout to secure a 3-0 Indiana victory.
