Irish Claim Second At Schenkel Invitational

2022 Schenkel Invitational Final Results

The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team finished up an impressive weekend of competition during the 2022 Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia, on Sunday afternoon. The Irish claimed second place with a 846 (-18), finishing behind host school Georgia Southern 839 (-25) and ahead of the College of Charleston with 850 (-14).

It was truly a team effort for Notre Dame throughout the tournament, as the Irish ended up posting eight rounds under par (72) over the three rounds.

Sophomore Angelo Marcon led the way with the best tournament performance of his young career, shooting 73-71 in the first two rounds then a blistering 65 in the third and final round to finish in a tie for fourth place with 209 (-7). The San Francisco, California, native moved from 23rd to fourth on the final day of the competition with the lowest round of the tournament from any player – a bogey free round with seven birdies.

Senior Davis Chatfield continued his solid spring season with a seventh-place 67-71-73 (211, -5) and junior Palmer Jackson was right behind him in a tie for ninth at 73-68-71 (212, -4).

The Irish will be back in action April 2-3 in the August Haskins Award Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
