Irish Back In Action Thursday At Bob Eubanks Open

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Following the long break for the holiday season, the Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams return to competition Thursday at the Bob Eubanks Open, held in the Laker Turf Building in Allendale, Mich. The two-day meet will begin with the men’s multi events at 6:00 p.m. (EST) Thursday. The women’s multi events begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, followed by the field events and running events at 4:00 p.m.

Notre Dame opened its indoor track and field season on Fri., Dec. 3 with the Blue and Gold Invitational at the Loftus Sports Centers in Notre Dame, Ind. In that meet, the Irish totaled 40 qualifying marks for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. The women qualified in 10 different events, while the men qualified in 14 events.

The Irish are sending 39 student-athletes to the meet in Allendale. Set to compete tomorrow in the men’s heptathlon on Thursday are sophomores Alex Bavis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) and Dean Odegard (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) and senior Justin Schneider (Atlanta, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian).

Bavis returns after a 11th-place finish (5.71m) in the long jump and sixth place in the high jump at the Blue and Gold Invitational. Odegard finished the 60-meter hurdles in 9.25 (ninth place), while finishing fourth in the pole vault (4.25m) and sixth place in the high jump (1.81m). Schneider finished second (4.75m) in the pole vault, fourth (6.47m) in the long jump and high jump (1.91m). Additionally, the senior had a fifth-place finish (8.67) in the 60-meter hurdles. Bavis, Odegard and Schneider also each competed on a 1,600-meter relay team.
