Fowlkes and Schuveiller Collect BIG EAST Weekly Women's Soccer Awards

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior forward/defender Lauren Fowlkes and sophomore defender/midfielder Jessica Schuveiller picked up BIG EAST Player of the Week awards it was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Fowlkes (Lee’s Summit, Mo./St. Teresa’s) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Shuveiller (Plano, Texas/Plano West) picked up BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Fowlkes earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling four points (on two goals) in a 2-0-0 weekend for the Irish. Fowlkes scored the game-tying goal with 12:46 left in a 2-1 win at Cincinnati on Sept. 25. The junior also posted the gamewinner in the 50th minute of a 1-0 victory over Louisville on Sept. 27. On the year, Fowlkes is tied for the team lead with a career-high five goals and has scored in three of the last four matches. This is her first BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor, and Notre Dame’s first honoree since Kerri Hanks earned the distinction on Oct. 27, 2008.

Schuveiller garnered BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades following a 2-0-0 week that included a shutout for the Irish. The sophomore also helped Notre Dame limit its opponents to 10 shots and just three shots on goal in the two wins. In a 2-1 win at Cincinnati on Sept. 25, Schuveiller also scored an unassisted gamewinner with 8:08 left in regulation. This is her first BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honor and Notre Dame’s first honoree since All-American Carrie Dew earned the honor on Sept. 1, 2008.

Fowlkes, Schuveiller and the Fighting Irish will head out on the road for their next four matches, beginning next weekend with a two-match swing to West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Friday’s contest at WVU is slated for 6 p.m. (ET) and will be televised live to a national cable audience by ESPNU. Notre Dame then will travel to Indianola, Pa., on Sunday to take on Pittsburgh in a 1 p.m. (ET) contest.
