NOTRE DAME, IND. – With the New Year bringing a promise of accomplishments yet to come, the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse family takes time to celebrate the recent achievements of its past members. Five former Fighting Irish standouts were recently selected in the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft. A pair of teammates from the 2015 Notre Dame squad – Nick Ossello and Conor Doyle – headlined the pack, each earning first round status.

Joining Ossello and Doyle, former Irishmen Stephen O’Hara, Kevin Randall and Matt Miller also heard their names called in the draft designed to strengthen teams’ rosters from 23 to 35 players. The 16th-annual MLL Collegiate Draft presented by Cascade Lacrosse will take place Friday, January 22 in conjunction with the US Lacrosse Convention in Baltimore, Maryland. More information on the event can be accessed at the following link: 2016 MLL Collegiate Draft. Notre Dame players chosen in the recent supplemental draft were also drafted in their respective graduating years.

The Chesapeake Bayhawks drafted Ossello in the first round, No. 2 overall, while Doyle was selected eighth by the Rochester Rattlers. However, Doyle was later part of a multi-player trade deal between Rochester and the Atlanta Blaze. Ossello, a midfielder from Wheat Ridge, Colorado (Wheat Ridge), and Doyle, an attackman from Towson, Maryland (Gilman School), both received honorable mention All-America recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association last season. Ossello has since transitioned into a role as a special teams player and scout team linebacker for the Fighting Irish football team.

O’Hara, who was drafted No. 11 overall in the second round by the Charlotte Hounds, copped first-team All-America and All-ACC honors as a senior defenseman in 2014. A product of West Chester, Pennsylvania and St. Joe’s Prep, O’Hara was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award during his time at Notre Dame. Another Irish first-team All-American, Randall was picked up No. 22 overall by the Florida Launch. Randall, who completed his senior campaign in 2012, was the 2012 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and unanimous first team all-league. Randall is a native of Penfield, New York and a product of Penfield High School.

Rounding out the Notre Dame representation, Matt Miller was added to Rochester’s roster with the team’s 89th pick. As a senior defenseman for the Irish in 2013, Miller garnered third-team All-America honors while serving as a team captain.
