Cross Country Takes First Place at National Catholic Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. –  The Notre Dame men’s and women’s cross country teams claimed first place at their first home meet, the 43rd National Catholic Invitational. The meet featured 15 Catholic Institutions from across the country

The men’s team claimed places first through seven with a dominant showing. They claimed a total of 15 points with the scoring order of 1-2-3-4-5(6)(7).

First place was claimed by Carter Solomon with a time of 24:35.0, and second place was claimed by Carter Cheeseman right behind with a time of 24:45.5. Continuing on the Irish streak was Matthew Carmody (24:48.9), Ryan Schumacher (24:48.9), and Robert Cozean (24:58.1). Quinn Gallagher rounded out the first of the Irish to cross the finish line with a time of 25:00.9.

Jake Renfree claimed a time of 25:12.0 to round out the top fifteen. Luke Schildmeyer took a time of 25:46.8 to help the Irish claim first place. 

On the women’s side, it was much of the same with a commanding run as they claimed 20 points with a scoring order of 2-3-4-5-6 (10)(11).

Olivia Markezich kicked off the scoring for the Irish with a time of 17:13.0 claiming second place, and right behind her was teammate Katie Thronson who registered a time of 17:16.5 to take third place. Erin Strezlecki took fourth place and crossed the finish line at 17:30.0.

Three more Irish crossed the finish line in fifth and sixth place. Anna Sophia Keller took fifth with a time of 17:36.0 and Sophie Novak took sixth place at 18:08.4. Katilin Ryan and Charlotte Turesson took times of 18:25.9 and 18:26.6, respectively. Molly Grant and Paige Grant finished seconds apart from each other crossing the finish line at 18:40.5 and 18:48.8. Isalina Colsman and Catherine Coffey rounded out the scoring for the team coming in at 19:49.8 and 19:51.9, respectively.

The Irish are back at home on Sept. 30 when they host the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite. The meet is free and open to the public.
