Chatfield & Ostrom Qualify for U.S. Amateur

Chatfield qualifies for second straight year

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The U.S. Amateur will have some Irish flair after two Notre Dame golfers in Davis Chatfield and Hunter Ostrom successfully qualified over the weekend.

Until July 24, 96 U.S. Amateur sites all across the country will qualify golfers over a 36-hole tournament. Last year, both Chatfield and Alex Jamieson qualified.

Hunter Ostrom claimed the single advancing spot from Idaho Golf Association’s USGA Amateur Qualifier at the Club at SpurWing. Ostrom shot rounds of 68 and 64 for a total of 132 (-12).

This marks Ostrom’s second medalist win this summer. Back on June 15, the rising senior won the 2019 Southwestern Amateur championship.

Over in East Providence, Davis Chatfield medaled in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier administered by the Rhode Island Golf Association at Pawtucket Country Club. Chatfield shot rounds of 66 and 67 for a score of 133 (-7).

Last year, Chatfield advanced into match play at the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach, reaching the round of 32.

This year’s U.S. Amateur, the 119th rendition, will take place from Aug. 12-18 at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club.

“Playing in these big events is all about experience,” Chatfield said. “You learn new things each time you play in events like these. Pinehurst will be a different experience for me because it is a type of golf course that I am not familiar with. I learned a lot at Pebble Beach last year on how to compete with the best. I feel like I belong this year.”
