ACC Championship Challenge Awaits Third-Seeded Irish

Spots in the NCAA Championship field up for grabs at Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.

The University of Notre Dame rowing team is poised for a run at an NCAA Championship berth this weekend when the Irish compete in the 2019 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championships at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Carolina on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18.

Notre Dame enters the competition seeded third in the First Varsity Eight (1V8), First Varsity Four (1V4) and Second Varsity Four (2V4), while earning the fourth-seed in the Second Varsity Eight (2V8) and Third Varsity Eight (3V8). The seeds are determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

There are three ACC teams among the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Top 20 in the field, led by No. 10 Virginia, No. 17 Duke and No. 18 Syracuse. The Irish most recently received 10 votes in the Top 25 poll.

Notre Dame has faced a challenging schedule in 2019, taking on No. 2 California, No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Brown, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 13 Southern Cal, No. 15 Indiana, No. 19 Oregon State, No. 20 Oklahoma – while Michigan State, Louisville and Alabama also received votes for the Top 20.
