10 Top-Three Finishes Highlight Day Two In Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – The Notre Dame track and field teams wrapped up the 30th annual Victor Lopez Invitational in Houston, Texas on Saturday with 10 top-three finishes. Highlighting day two was a pole vault title by senior Kevin Schipper.

The Irish return to the outdoor track this week with three separate meets. The teams will split up with some members going to the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, some going to the Eastern Illinois Invitational in Charleston, Ill., while a final group will go to the Purdue Poehlein Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Schipper picked up where he left off in the indoor season by winning the pole vault with a vault of 5.15m (16-10.75 ft).

Freshman Kaila Barber finished in the runner-up position in the 400m hurdles, finishing the event in 59.04.

In the men’s shot put, Andrew Brock finished third with a toss of 16.92m (55-06.25 ft).

Vivien Devaney took seventh in the women’s discus with a throw of 43.59m (143-00 ft).

In the women’s long jump, freshman Kaila Barber finished fifth with a leap of 5.80m (19-00.50 ft).

Kelly Burke earned a runner-up finish in the women’s pole vault with a vault of 3.85m (12-07.50 ft).

Anthony Thomas placed sixth in the men’s discus with a toss of 48.87m (160-04 ft).

A pair of Irish women’s hurdlers placed in the top six in the 100m hurdles as Jade Barber (13.96) and Nevada Sorenson (13.97) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Three Irish men’s 400m runners finished in the top seven, including Chris Giesting, who took second in 46.59, and Patrick Feeney, who placed third in 47.13. Brendan Dougherty finished seventh in 48.43.

Giesting also took eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 21.63.

In the women’s 400m, Michelle Brown (55.23) and Natalie Geiger (55.46), finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the men’s 800m Mitchell Lorenz placed fourth in a time of 1:51.76.

The women’s 4x100m relay team finished in the bronze position as the team of K. Barber, J. Barber, Sorenson and Aijah Urssery finished in 45.75.

Logan Renwick placed third in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 14.38m (47-02.25 ft).

Emily Morris took sixth in the women’s shot put with a hurl of 14.01m (45-11.75 ft).

The men’s 4x400m relay team of Dougherty, Feeney, Lorenz and Giesting finished second with a time of 3:07.51, while the women’s team of Geiger, Megan Yanik, J. Barber and K. Barber also finished second in 3:39.67.
