Head coach Martin Stone looks to lead Notre Dame to its 11th conference championship this weekend in the program's first ACC Championship appearance

#10 Irish Seeded Second For ACC Championship This Weekend

May 15, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame rowing team brings a strong championship pedigree from its storied history in the BIG EAST Conference to Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C., where the Irish make their first ever start in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship regatta this weekend.

Notre Dame claimed the final 10 BIG EAST Championship titles from 2004-13, earning five NCAA Championship berths during that span. The Irish ultimately won 10 of the 13 championship regattas that were contested during the old BIG EAST era.

Seeded second in the eight-team field this weekend, No. 10 Notre Dame is one of the regatta favorites on Lake Hartwell along with the top seed, national No. 5 Virginia. The Cavaliers have won 13 of the last 14 ACC Championship regattas, with Clemson being the only team to break that streak with a conference championship victory in 2009.

Along with the top two seeds and host Clemson, teams also entered in the regatta are No. 18 Syracuse, Boston College, Duke, Miami and North Carolina. The eight-team field is the largest in the history of the ACC Championship.
