STORRS, Conn. – The Connecticut women’s volleyball team shocked Notre Dame by defeating the Irish in five games, 15-6, 5-15, 12-15, 15-11 and 16-14. The Notre Dame loss was the team’s first to a conference opponent since the streak, which was the second-longest in NCAA history, began in 1991.

In the loss, the Irish (5-7 overall, 2-1 in the BIG EAST) were led by Emily Schiebout’s (Blaine, Minn.) 17 kills and Lindsay Treadwell’s (Austin, Texas) 14 digs. Notre Dame was out blocked by the Huskies 17-9 and hit .154 in the five-game loss. Leading the Huskies (12-9 overall, 3-0 in the BIG EAST) was Annette Rynn, who had 15 kills, and Jenelle Koester, who added 11 kills.

Since the all-time series between the two teams started in 1995 when the Irish entered the BIG EAST Conference, Notre Dame had beaten the Huskies three times in three games. The last and only time the Irish had ever been pushed to a five-game BIG EAST match was in 1996 against Villanova.

Notre Dame continues its road trip with games against Fairfield University, Saturday, October 10, and versus St. John’s, Sunday, October 11.
