MADISON, Wis. – The 13th-ranked Notre Dame women’s tennis team won four of six singles matches and swept the doubles to beat 55th-ranked Wisconsin 7-2 on Monday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Notre Dame’s third straight win over the Badgers improved its record to 16-6, while Wisconsin falls to 5-10.

Notre Dame collected its first victory at the No. 1 spot as eighth-ranked Michelle Dasso defeated 46th-ranked Barbara Urbanska in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Wisconsin’s April Gabler evened the score to 1-1 as she downed Marisa Velasco in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 3 position. Roz Sweeney gave the Badgers a 2-1 lead with a win at the No. 6 spot over Lindsey Green 6-3, 6-4.

The Irish took control of the match as they captured the Nos. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 singles points. Senior All-American and 62nd-ranked Jennifer Hall rallied to beat Andrea Nathan 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Freshman Becky Varnum, ranked 56th, downed Dena Baritot 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Junior Kelly Zalinski beay Debbie Reynolds 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

Notre Dame clinched the win in doubles as Green and Zalinski downed the Badger freshman duo of Katie Dougherty and Reynolds 8-2, at the No. 3 spot. The Irish continued to dominate in doubles as they earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
