NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame head swimming coach Bailey Weathers announced the signings today of four high school seniors to national letters of intent. Amy Deger (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Meghan Lynch (Huntsville, Ala.), Lindsay Moorehead (Carefree, Ariz.) and Liane Watkins (Austin, Texas) will make up Notre Dame’s class of 2003.

Deger is a U.S. senior national qualifier in the 100 butterfly and was a junior national qualifier in the 200 and 400 individual medley, as well as the 200 butterfly. A senior at Oakland Catholic High School, Deger swims for the Pittsburgh Aquatic Club.

Lynch is also a senior national qualifier in the 100 and 200 butterfly as well as being the 1997 U.S. junior national champion in the 100 butterfly. At Virgil Grissom High School, Lynch led her team to the Alabama state meet title in 1999 and went undefeated her freshman, sophomore and senior seasons.

Moorehead adds to the Irish ranks in the middle distance freestyle events. A senior at Cactus Shadows High School, she placed seventh at the 1998 long course junior nationals in three events and took eighth (500-yard freestyle) and 13th (200-yard freestyle) respectively at this year’s short course junior nationals. A member of the Scottsdale Aquatic Club, Moorehead set regional records in 1997 in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Watkins is expected to help the team in the sprint freestyle events after qualifying for the U.S. Senior Nationals in the 50 and 100 freestyle. A senior a Westlake High School, she was the Texas state champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle in 1998 and was named regional competitor of the year. Watkins swims for Texas Aquatics under the direction of two-time Olympian Whitney Hedgepeth.
