Women's Swimming And Diving Making Finals Attempts At NCAA Qualification Times

With the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship just 20 days away, Notre Dame head coach Bailey Weathers is making a special trip to the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., this weekend to give three swimmers a final shot at qualifying for the NCAA meet.

The Irish were originally scheduled to travel to the Gopher Invitational at Minnesota this weekend.

Senior Heidi Hendrick, freshman Christel Bouvron and freshman Mary Steffan will compete in the Bulldog Invitational. Bouvron will compete in the 100 and 200 butterfly, while Hendrick and Steffan will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.

Hendrick boasts top times of 23.51 in the 50 free, 51.05 in the 100 free and 1:50.09 in the 200 free. Steffan has gone 25.42 in the 50 free, 55.04 in the 100 free and 1:58.53 in the 200 free. They will be chasing the NCAA qualification times of 22.92 (50 free), 49.63 (100 free) and 1:47.49 (200 free).

Bouvron, who was a member of the 2000 Singapore national team which competed at the Olympics. She has top times of 54.57 in the 100 butterfly and 2:02.28 in the 200 butterfly. She will be looking for qualification times of 54.14 and 1:58.98.
