The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team began the 2002-03 dual meet season in fine form, defeating Colorado State 162-100 on Friday evening.

The Irish won 10 of the 16 events in the meet, including two dominating team performances in the butterfly. Lisa Garcia posted two victories in both the 100 and 200 butterfly and was followed by three teammates in each race. Christel Bouvron, Lisa D’Olier and Amy Deger finished two-three-four in the 100 fly, while Amy Deger, D’Olier and Brooke Taylor took two-three-four in the 200 fly.

Garcia was not done yet, as she posted a third victory in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.76.

Other event winners for the Irish included Kelli Barton in the 1,000 freestyle (10:23.55), Bouvron in the 200 freestyle (1:54.85), Danielle Hulick in the 50 free (24.59), Heidi Hendrick in the 100 free (53.48), Marie Labosky in the 200 backstroke (2:07.97), Laurie Musgrave in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.42) Sarah Alwen in the 500 freestyle (5:13.91).

The Irish did not enter any divers in Friday’s meet.
