Women's Swimming and Diving Begins Competition At NCAA Championships

The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team began competition at the 2003 NCAA Championship meet in Auburn, Alabama this afternoon. Competing in preliminary races were Lisa Garcia and Marie Labosky in the 200 individual medley and Danielle Hulick in the 50 meter freestyle.

Juniors Garcia and Labosky were competing for the second year in a row in the NCAA championships in the 200 individual medley. Garcia bested her finish in last year’s meet of a time of 2:02.21, finishing in a time of 2:01.58 and placing 22nd. Labosky finished in a time of 2:03.23 and finished in 39th place. Hulick, also a junior for the Irish, finished 40th in the 50 meter freestyle and finished in a time of 23. 35.

Later on today, Megan Perry-Eaton will compete in the one-meter board diving competition. Friday, Labosky will hit the pool again in the 400 IM, while Garcia will compete in the 100 butterfly. Friday will also see Hulick in the 100 backstroke and Perry-Eaton on the three-meter board. On th last day of competition, Saturday, Hulick and Labosky will swim in the 200 backstroke and Garcia will compete in the 200 butterfly.
