Women's Swimming And Diving Among The Nation's Best

The 15th-ranked University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team, fresh off its fifth-consecutive BIG EAST Championship, has a number of swimmers ranked among the fastest in the nation, according to Taper and Shave Magazine.

Junior Kelly Hecking is ranked 11th in the 100 and 200 backstroke, putting herself in position to compete at the 2001 NCAA Championships in both events. Freshman Marie Labosky is ranked in the top 20 in three events (1,650 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley) and is also in great position to compete at the NCAA meet.

The 400 medley relay team of Hecking, junior Allison Lloyd, and freshmen Lisa D’Olier and Danielle Hulick, which won the BIG EAST title in 3:41.66, is currently ranked seventh in the nation.

A handful of swimmers will compete in this weekend’s Shamrock Invitational, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24 – Sunday, Feb. 25, in the Rolfs Aquatic Center on Notre Dame’s campus. It is the last chance to qualify for the NCAA championship meet.
