Women's Swimming & Diving Places Third at Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team finished third at the Minnesota Invitational on Sunday. Minnesota won the meet with 1045.5 points, while Wisconsin took second with 750 and Notre Dame third with 614. Iowa finished fourth with 535.5, and Pittsburgh sixth with 367. Utah, Iowa State and Northern Illinois rounded out the field.

Freshman Allison Lloyd won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.70, edging Wisconsin senior Susie Topp, who was second in 2:20.74. Irish All-American Shannon Suddarth finished seventh in 2:24.02, while Kathleen Rimkus was 11th and Anne Iacobucci 22nd. Carrie Nixon took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.49, just behind Minnesota’s Amy Cottrill, who won with 51.45. Maureen Hillenmeyer and Brooke Davey were 15th and 16th.

Notre Dame freshman Kelly Hecking finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.74 behind the winning time of 2:03.12 by Minnesota’s Emily Deppe. Tiffany O’Brien took ninth in 2:06.10. Tara Riggs and Kristen Van Saun placed fourth and fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle. Allison Newell and Liz Barger finished fifth and sixth in the 200-yard butterfly. Notre Dame took eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Irish return to the pool when they play host to the Notre Dame Invitational Dec. 3-5, at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
