Women's Lacrosse Opens Season With A 15-3 Win Over Ohio University

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team scored four times in the first three-and-a-half minutes and never looked back on the way to a 15-3 season-opening win over Ohio University at Meyo Field in the Loftus Center.

The Irish were paced offensively by sophomore Lauren Fischer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who had a career-best three goals and one assist. Alissa Moser (Sr., North Wales, Pa.), Natalie Loftus (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) and Angela Dixon (Jr., Pennsauken, N.J.) each had a pair of goals in the win.

Notre Dame built a 9-0 lead at halftime and was ahead 10-0 before the Bobcats broke up goalkeeper Jen White’s (Jr., Annapolis, Md.) shutout bid at 26:06 of the second half.

Moser got the Irish attack started early as she scored her first goal of the game just 39 seconds into the contest. Loftus made it 2-0 with her first of the game and the season at 27:53. Danielle Shearer (Sr., Hampstead, Md.) – who had a goal and three assists in the game – got her goal at 26:40 for a 3-0 lead.

Fischer, who scored just one goal in two games as a freshman, scored the next three goals for the Irish in building the Irish lead to 6-0. Her first two goals came at 26:29 and 18:13. She closed out her three-goal game with a free position goal at 16:09.

Kassen Delano (So., Alexandria, Va.) made it 7-0 at 13:54 while Shearer and Kate Marotta (So., Columbus, Ohio) closed out the half with free position goals at 9:48 and 6:14 respectively.

The lead would go to 10-0 when Maureen Henwood (Sr., Marlton, N.J.) scored a free position goal at 26:58.

Becky Oxman broke the shutout for Ohio University at 26:06 and Alyssa Trocher added her goal just 16 seconds later to cut the lead to 10-2.

Kristen Gaudreau (So., Annapolis, Md.) and Loftus scored 33 seconds apart at 23:30 and 22:57 to get the ten-goal lead back on the scoreboard.

Dixon scored her two goals at 12:50 and 7:28 for Notre Dame and Kate Scarola (Sr., Windsor, Conn.) closed the scoring with a free position goal at 2:36.

Notre Dame outshot Ohio University 18-13 in the game. White made nine saves for the Irish while Jennifer Cassidy had 12 saves for the Bobcats.

The Irish return to action on Saturday, March 9 when they travel to Palo Alto, Calif. where they will face the Stanford Cardinal in a 2:00 p.m. (PST) game.
