Women's Golf Travels To Shootout At The Legends Oct. 7-8

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team, coming off a win at the Notre Dame Women’s Golf Invitational on Sept. 29, travels to Franklin, Ind. to participate in the Shootout at the Legends on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8. The 12-team, 54-hole tournament will be played at the par 72, 6,117-yard Legends of Indiana Golf Club.

The Teams: Bradley, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Toledo and Wisconsin. Scoring for the tournament will be five players with the low four scores counted. Each team will have a sixth player, playing as an individual.

Dates and Times: Monday, October 7 play will consist of a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start for round one. Round two will begin immediately following the first round with a shotgun start. Tuesday, October 8 will have formatted tee-times with a starting time and order to be determined.

Irish Lineup: Coach Debby King’s lineup will be made up by Karen Lotta (So., Los Angeles, Calif.), Lauren Gebauer (Fr., Columbus, Ohio), Shannon Byrne (Jr., Arlington Heights, Ill.), Rebecca Rogers (Jr., Alpharetta, Ga.), Katie Brophy (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) and Terri Taibl (Sr., Elm Grove, Wis.).

Last Year At Shootout at the Legends: A year ago, the Irish made their first-ever appearance in the Shootout at the Legends, finishing 19th in the 19-team field with a 956 total (309-325-322). Notre Dame’s top finisher was Kristin McMurtrie, who tied for 59th with a 235 (75-76-84). Lotta and Byrne also participated with Lotta finishing in a tie for 66th with a 237 (76-84-77) and Byrne tying for 81st with a 240 (81-79-80).

Last Tournament: The Irish are coming off their first win since the 2000-01 season after taking the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 29. Notre Dame won the 18-team tournament by three strokes over Western Michigan with rounds of 316-310-319 for a 945 total. Lotta was the top finisher for the Irish as she tied for third while playing as an individual participant. Lotta shot a 16-over par 232 on rounds of 81, 79 and 72. The 232 total and the even-par final round 72 were career bests for the sophomore. In all, the Irish had five golfers finish in the top 20 – Gebauer (234) tied for fifth, Byrne (241) was 15th, Sarah Bassett (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) tied for 18th (241) and Brophy (242) tied for 20th.

Irish Leaders: Gebauer goes into the Shootout at the Legends as Notre Dame’s top golfer with a 78.33 average. Lotta ranks third with a 79.83, with Byrne fourth with an 80.00 scoring average. Brophy (80.50), Rogers (81.33) and Taibl (85.00) round out the Irish lineup.

Next For The Irish: Notre Dame’s women’s golf team will next be in action on Oct. 14-15 when the Irish participate in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at the Willowbend Golf Club in Wichita, Kan.
