Volleyball Selected To Host First And Second Rounds Of NCAA Tournament

The University of Notre Dame volleyball team (23-7) received good news on Sunday evening when the 2002 NCAA volleyball tournament selections were announced. The Irish will be hosting the first two rounds of the tournament on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, in the Joyce Center. Notre Dame and the College of Charleston will meet in one match on Saturday at 6 p.m., while Michigan State and George Mason make up the other match at 4 p.m. The winners will play on Sunday for the right to move on to the Sweet 16 at 4 p.m.

The Irish will be hosting the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1996, when Notre Dame defeated Hofstra in the first round before falling to #12 Ohio State in the second round. Notre Dame is 4-1 in NCAA tournament action at home since it qualified for its first NCAA post season berth in 1992.
