Volleyball's Christi Girton Nabs BIG EAST Honor For Second Consecutive Week

Notre Dame senior outside hitter Christi Girton was named the Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 2. She led the Irish in two conference match victories last week over Villanova and Georgetown. Notre Dame improved to 11-4 on the season and is currently ranked 20th in the AVCA/USA Today volleyball poll. Girton had previously been named Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 25, for her impressive performance in the Golden Dome Invitational.

Girton led the team in kills in both BIG EAST match victories last week. Against Villanova, Girton played just two games but notched eight kills on 10 attempts with just one error for an outstanding .700 hitting percentage. She also led the Irish in kills with 16 against Georgetown, adding nine digs and four blocks. Girton ended up hitting .354 for the week with 24 total kills (4.8 per game).

The Irish senior shared the honor with Sarah Katinger from Providence, who had 47 kills and 54 digs in two matches last week.
