Volleyball Adds Grad Transfer Kaylyn Winkler from SMU

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Head coach Salima Rockwell announced the addition of graduate transfer Kaylyn Winkler Tuesday afternoon. Winkler joins the Fighting Irish after spending the past three years at Southern Methodist University, and a freshman season at Northeastern.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kaylyn to the Fighting Irish volleyball family!” Rockwell said, “She is an explosive attacker with great vision who is also a very natural blocker. We are excited about the experience and leadership that she will provide, and also her infectious personality that will be a wonderful complement to our current team. We can’t wait for her to get to campus.”

Last season, Winkler earned second team All-American Athletic Conference honors and was a two-time AAC Weekly Honor Roll member. She led the conference with a .384 hitting percentage and ranked fourth in the AAC with 1.09 blocks per set. She led the team with 114 blocks on the year and recorded double-digit kills in seven matches.

As a junior, she was a member of the AAC’s All-Academic team, and was named to the weekly honor roll twice. She led the Mustangs with 33 block assists and totaled 45 during the shortened season. Her .315 hitting percentage led the team and was seventh in the American.

In her first year in Dallas, was second on the team with 60 blocks in 65 sets played. She tallied a season-high 19 kills in the matchup with Memphis and tallied double-digit kills four times.
