Two Fighting Irish Recruits Named Under Armour All-Americans

May 29, 2007

BALTIMORE, Md. – Two Notre Dame men’s lacrosse recruits have been selected as 2007 Under Armour All-Americans. Zach Brenneman (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) and Kevin Ridgway (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep) will compete in the second annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic game, to be held at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday, June 16 and televised live on ESPNU at 5:00 p.m. (ET).

The 2007 Under Armour All-America Team recognizes the top up-and-coming high school lacrosse talent, consisting of the best boys and girls senior lacrosse players in the country, each of whom was selected by a panel of experts headed by Kim Simons on the girls’ side and Gary Gait on the boys’ side and organized by the team at Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The men are divided into a North and South team with 22 athletes on each squad.

Brenneman, a midfielder, will be competing for the North team in the contest. He is a five-time letterwinner at East Hampton High School along with being a team captain during his senior campaign. Entering his senior season, he had compiled 100 goals and 48 assists. He won the gold medal at the New York Empire Games in July of 2006 and was nominated for the North/South Game, which is the 2007 US Lacrosse National Senior Showcase. New York Newsday also tabbed him as one of the top 50 lacrosse players on Long Island in 2006.

Ridgway, a defenseman, will play for the South squad. His Georgetown Prep team went undefeated in winning the state title during his junior campaign, the same year they were ranked No. 1 in the country. The team has been ranked nationally over the past three seasons. Ridgway competed in the Under Armour Underclassmen Game and is a member of the Maryland Freestate All-Star Team.

The 2007 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic will take place on Saturday, June 16th at Loyola College’s Geppi-Aikens Field. A full day of events is scheduled, beginning with the STX Lacrosse Youth Clinic at 9:00 a.m. Following that event at 11:00 a.m., which is open to kids age 15 and under, will be the D.C. vs. Baltimore Girls’ Underclassmen game. At 1:00 p.m. will be the D.C. vs. Baltimore Boys’ Underclassmen Game. At the conclusion of that contest, the All-American Girls square off in a North vs. South format before the All-American Boys finish the day live on ESPNU at 5:00 p.m.

Notre Dame’s Matt Ciambella (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Will Yeatman (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) competed in the inaugural Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic game last year.
