The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team (4-0) will play for the 2016 Legends Classic Championship on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 6:00 p.m. ET (ESPN2) against Northwestern (3-1) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

NOTRE DAME vs. NORTHWESTERN SERIES HISTORY:
The Irish and Wildcats renew a long-standing Midwestern rivalry in the Legends Classic Championship game. The teams first met in 1921 and continued to meet on a regular basis through the 1984-85 season. After the meeting in November of 1984, the teams have only met once, a 72-58 Northwestern victory in the Chicago Invitational Challenge played at the UIC Pavilion.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Northwestern 63-23-1 (the tie occurring when there was a scoring error in a New Year’s Eve matchup in 1935). The Irish have won 11 of the last 13 meetings with Northwestern.
NORTHWESTERN CONNECTIONS:
Notre Dame assistant coach Ryan Humphrey, in his first year as a member of Mike Brey’s staff, was most recently the Director of Player Development at Northwestern from November 2014 through June of 2016.
BARCLAYS CENTER SUCCESS:
Notre Dame returns to the site of its first and second round 2016 NCAA Tournament victories this week when they travel to the Barclays Center for the 2016 Legends Classic. The Irish rallied to defeat Michigan and Stephen F. Austin to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season. The win over the Lumberjacks provided plenty of drama, as then-freshman Rex Pflueger tipped in the game-winning field goal with 1.5 seconds remaining.
Notre Dame also took part in in the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Barclays Center, defeating BYU but then losing to St. Joseph’s in overtime.
The 2016 Legends Classic final will be the sixth game played at the Barclays Center for the Fighting Irish, who boast a 4-1 record in the building. The 2017 ACC Championship tournament will also be at the Barclays Center this season.
NOTRE DAME IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT HISTORY:
Notre Dame started its in-season tournament appearances during the 1948 season, taking part in the Hoosier Classic at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Hoosier Classic was made up of Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue and Butler – a similar make up to the current Crossroads Classic that takes place at BankersLife Fieldhouse in December of each season. The Hoosier Classic, however, featured two games for each team over the course of two days, while the Crossroads Classic is a one-game event.
Since 1948, Notre Dame has competed in 34 multiple-game tournaments and compiled a 48-35 (.578) record in those events.
Notre Dame’s victory over Colorado was the third in the Legends Classic, marking the first time since 2010, when the Irish won the Old Spice Classic, that the team has posted three victories in a multi-game in-season tournament.
Notre Dame has never won four games in an in-season tournament.
NOTRE DAME – COLORADO NOTABLES:
Here are the notable accomplishments from the 89-83 victory over Colorado in the Legends Classic semifinal:
- With 89 points Notre Dame has eclipsed the 80-point mark in all four outings in the 2016-17 season.
- The Irish have scored 50-plus points in the first half of two of its four games this season.
- Notre Dame has not recorded a double-digit turnover game through four games this season, as it finished with just seven on Monday.
- The Irish outrebounded Colorado 42-35.
- Notre Dame had two 20-point scorers for the second time this season, as Farrell and Colson each finished with 20-plus points.
- Vasturia’s 17 points marked a season high.
- Notre Dame finished 27-of-29 from the free throw line and converted its final 13 attempts. It was the best FT shooting performance since the Irish finished 25-for-27 against Boston College on Jan. 23, 2016.
- Bonzie Colson’s 22-point 12-rebound effort was his first double-double of the season and fifth of his career.
- Notre Dame did not make a three-point shot in the second half against Colorado, just the 10th time that the Irish have failed to hit a three-point shot in the second half of a game during the Mike Brey era.
- Matt Farrell scored a career-high 20 points against Colorado and matched his career-best with six assists. Farrell seems at home at the Barclays Center, where he made his first two career starts last March as the Irish defeated Michigan and Stephen F. Austin in the fist and second round of the NCAA Tournament.
- With 17 points, V.J. Beachem increased his run of double-digit scoring games, dating back to the start of the 2016 post season, to a career-best 10 games.
