NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In one of the largest track meets in the country, the Notre Dame track and field teams claimed four first-place finishes at the Mt. SAC Relays, April 16-18, in Walnut, Calif. The Irish women were led by first-place finishers freshman Liz Grow in the 400 meters and junior Jennifer Engelhardt in the high jump. Grow ran a time of 53.38 in the 400 meters and provisionally qualify for the NCAAs, while Engelhardt also provisionally qualified for the NCAAs and broke her own school high jump record with a leap of 6-0 3/4, marking the first time she had ever broken the six-foot barrier. Junior JoAnna Deeter continued her outstanding track season by automatically qualifying for the NCAAs in the 5,000 meters in a school-record time of 16:04.41. Deeter has already automatically qualified for the NCAAs in the 10,000 meters and provisionally qualified in the 3,000 meters.

On the men’s side, sophomore Ryan Shay (5,000 meters) and senior Antonio Arce (1,500 meters) both won their respective races. Shay finished his event in 14:02.35 to provisionally qualify for the NCAAs, while Arce’s time of 3:47.23 is a team season-high in the 1,500 meters. Other men competing for the Irish at the meet included junior Phil Mishka, who ran a career-best 1:48.94 in the 800 meters to finish second, while freshman Luke Watson placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a hand time of 8:56.7.
