Torin Francis Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll For Second Straight Week

Notre Dame, Ind. – For the second straight week, Irish co-captain Torin Francis (Boston, Mass.) has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in Notre Dame’s 65-63 victory at IPFW on December 18. Francis joined Rudy Gay (Connecticut), Carl Krauser (Pittsburgh), Quincy Douby (Rutgers) and Solomon Jones (South Florida) on the list of honor roll honorees. Gerry McNamara of Syracuse was tabbed the league’s player-of-the-week, while Devan Downey was honored as the conference’s rookie of the week.

Coming off an eight-day hiatus for final exams, Francis shot 10-13 (.769) from the field and was four-of-four from the free-throw line. In addition to his points and rebounds, he dished off two assists, made a steal and blocked one shot. The double-double was his third of the season and 26th of his career.

Francis is currently the team’s second leading scorer and top rebounder averaging career-bests of 15.4 points and 10.3 rebounds. He is currently shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 75.7 percent from the charity stripe. Francis has scored in double figures in six straight games and grabbed 10-plus rebounds in four of seven outings. In the last four games, he has averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 75.7 percent (28-37) from the field.

Francis owns career averages of 11.5 points and 8.4 rebounds and became the 45th player in Notre Dame basketball history to score 1,000 points (1,039).
