Tom Zbikowski Named To 2006 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame senior safety Tom Zbikowski (Arlington Heights, Ill.) has been named to the 2006 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, announced by the Maxwell Football Club. The award is given annually to the top defensive player in college football as voted on by head coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club, and various sports writers throughout the country.

Zbikowski started all 11 games at safety for the Irish in 2005. He made 62 tackles and led the team with five interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. His highlights in 2005 included returning a punt and an interception for a touchdown against Tennessee, in addition to making nine tackles versus the Volunteers.

As a junior in 2004, Zbikowski started all twelve games and was fourth on the team with 70 tackles. He was named Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Michigan State, which included nine tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble which he returned 75 yards for a touchdown.

Zbikowski has been named defensive captain for 2006 season.
