Feb. 28, 2005

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior center Teresa Borton (Yakima, Wash./West Valley HS) has been selected as the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It’s the first time Borton has been chosen to receive the award, and she joins senior All-America forward Jacqueline Batteast (South Bend, Ind./Washington HS), a four-time honoree, as Irish players who have been named BIG EAST Player of the Week this season. In addition, freshman guard Charel Allen (Monessen, Pa./Monessen HS) was tapped as the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Feb. 7.

Playing in the final home game of her successful college career this past Saturday against West Virginia, Borton was nearly flawless, piling up 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting, along with nine rebounds, five blocked shots and three assists. She also scored six points in a 13-0 Irish run late in the first half as Notre Dame pulled away from the Mountaineers to register an 82-57 victory. In her career, she is tied for fourth on the Irish all-time blocks list (141) and is seventh with a .549 lifetime field goal percentage.

No. 10 Notre Dame (24-4, 12-3 BIG EAST) will close out regular season play Tuesday night when it travels to Seton Hall for a 7 p.m. (ET) game at Walsh Gym in South Orange, N.J. The Irish and Pirates will be meeting for the second time this season, with Notre Dame earning a 54-33 victory back on Jan. 2 at the Joyce Center in South Bend.
